Blue Line

I remember hearing years ago as a Police Chaplain that there was a "Blue Line."  That's the socially respectable way of saying "them and us."  It wasn't long after that, I left that voluntary position, as I realized in their limited view of that line, I didn't want to be a part of the blue "us," therefore I would always be on the other side of their blue line, making me a "them."

I'm glad I saw it when I did, because I simply could not live with myself if I ever crossed that line.  I followed this for a time, and didn't want to sensationalize the situation with comment, but now the verdict is in.

Manpower

Three men were standing outside an Arabic gathering in Dearborn, Michigan, with copies of the Gospel according to John written in English and Arabic, according to this video.  I can't say that I support this kind of evangelism, but they were standing on the public street, not entering and interrupting the event.  

Michigan has been in the news for years now, as some areas of the state are experiencing economic collapse, in virtual broken disrepair.  I checked the city charter, and from the statistics the indication is the police force is down in numbers and the pay scale is not inviting.

However, that number has been much lower for years—totaling between 180-190 on average. Currently, there are 182 employees—96 of which are on patrol duty. <<< 

I don't have the actual figures, but working with 96 patrol officers, 3 shifts a day, 7 days a week adds up to 21 shifts, which indicates somewhere between 4 and 5 different shifts of manpower to patrol the city 24/7.  Presumably these officers work a forty hour week.  I know when I was a police chaplain in a town of about 80,000 there were between 9 and 11 patrol officers on the city streets at any one give time.  That was back several years before the economic crash . . .

At 2:00 there are were clearly 8 officers at the scene, in the frame.

The Danger of Being Armed

As times become more troubling, I hear of many speaking of guns and ammo, and these are the ones preparing to be ready . . . according to their interpretation of Scripture.  I've spoken about the amendments and I'm all for them, including the 2nd, but gun owning is not my personal goal.  I've given something a great deal of thought as I have been led to put myself and this place "out there" in ministry and business.  What would I do, as times intensified?  I think I've made peace with my current thoughts on the matter, but truth be told, I don't think any of us truly know, if we're alive at the time, how we'll handle the possible anarchy of the end of days.

Since I do not believe in a pre-tribulation rapture and I'm just now 55, at the rate of the momentum, it's possible that I will still be alive for the Second Coming, or at least the great tribulation that will precede it.  So, I am preparing and I've considered what I'd do about arming myself.  Now, since I'm publishing this, keep in mind it's not in stone, my mind could change as the momentum mounts.

When someone asked if I was worried about being killed for my food supply, I half jokingly replied with, "No, if they kill me, they'll have to do their own gardening and canning!"  People wiling to kill for food may not be thinking that far down the road, when and if the time comes . . . I truly can't imagine killing someone over food or even in self-defense for that matter.

A gun in my hand with any moment of hesitation would probably only result in my own injury or demise.  I think there is only one situation in which I could look someone in the eyes and still think to kill.  That would be to protect a child.  Considering the calculation in which I can write this, I'm not sure I'd even need a weapon!   With the number of people speaking of arming themselves for the end of days, I think of Messiah's words to Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Just in case this passage could be translated to include any weapon, I do feel planning to be armed is no guarantee of protection, but an invitation to my own demise.
